SUMMARY:Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Offers High School Athletes
DESCRIPTION:Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Offers High School Athletes \nUIL Athletic Physicals and Free Heart Screenings \nEchocardiograms can detect heart anomalies in teenage athletes \nMansfield Independent School District (MISD)\, Midlothian Independent School District\, and South Grand Prairie High School Athletic Departments are partnering with Methodist Mansfield Medical Center to offer UIL sports physicals to middle and high school student athletes. Physicals and echocardiograms will take place at the following locations. \nMansfield ISD – Methodist Mansfield Medical Center – April 14\, 2018 – 9 a.m. – Noon \nMidlothian ISD – Heritage High School\, Midlothian – May 19\, 2018 – 9 a.m. – Noon \nS. Grand Prairie HS – Methodist Convenient Care Clinic – June 2\, 2018 – 9 a.m. – Noon \nThe hospital will also offer free\, optional echocardiogram screenings at each location with an appointment. During an echocardiogram\, an ultrasound is used to examine the heart\, so physicians can detect potential abnormalities or other cardiovascular conditions that may affect student athletes. This echocardiogram test has saved 13 lives in the nine years the hospital has offered them. \nThe sports physicals and echocardiogram screenings will be performed by volunteer nurses\, allied health professionals\, and independently practicing physicians from Methodist Mansfield. Sports echos will be led by Alan Taylor\, MD\, and Levi Rice\, DO\, cardiologist on the medial staff at Methodist Mansfield. Jeff McDaniel\, MD\, and Juan Gavalda\, MD\, will lead the team of physicians in performing the sports physicals. \nTo register for sports physical or echocardiograms go to https://www.methodisthealthsystem.org/sports-physicals-sign-up/. Appointments are on a first come/first serve basis. Don’t delay sign up today. \n“This is an incredible opportunity for our student athletes to have a quality physical exam\,” said Mansfield ISD Athletic Director Philip O’Neal. “The generous donations of time and equipment many of our students will have access to comprehensive tests.” \n“Our goal is to provide a quality UIL physical exam to ensure all of our athletes can compete safely\,” said MISD District Athletic Trainer Andy Starnes. \nParents of middle school and high school student athletes who wish to participate in the echocardiogram screening must complete a medical history questionnaire and sign medical releases prior to the screening. The forms are available from the school’s athletic directors or on the website. \nEchocardiogram screenings will be offered on a first come\, first served basis and will be conducted by appointment only by https://www.methodisthealthsystem.org/sports-physicals-sign-up/ \nParents must accompany their teens during this painless\, non-invasive test. \nThe sports physical is not intended to replace a student’s regular physical exam with their primary care physician\, but it will meet UIL requirements to medically clear students before they can participate in any organized sports activity. The echocardiogram procedure is a screening exam and does not rule out all heart-related causes of illness. \nThe Methodist Mansfield sports physicals and echocardiogram community outreach program was honored with both a 2018 Fort Worth Business Press Healthcare Hero Award and a 2017 D CEO Excellence in Healthcare Award. \nAbout Methodist Health System \nGuided by the founding principles of life\, learning\, and compassion\, Dallas-based Methodist Health System (Methodist) provides quality\, integrated health care to improve and save the lives of individuals and families throughout North Texas. SUMMARY:NFL Draft is coming to town this month
DESCRIPTION:If you thought the National Football League was just an autumn pastime\, think again. This month – specifically from April 26-28 – the NFL’s second-biggest event\, the player draft\, will be held at AT&T Stadium before what will likely be the largest crowd ever to witness the league’s selection process. \nHow big will this year’s draft be? In late February\, more than 100\,000 fans had signed up for a chance to view the event. That’s the highest number of registrations over a three-day period in draft history. \nFans who registered at NFL.com/FanMobilePass were entered into a free lottery to win seated tickets inside the NFL Draft Theater at the Stadium. \nThose lucky enough to get seats will be party to a three-day process that can help teams’ prospects for improvement over the coming season and years. One example of the kind of boon a smart selection can represent is Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Carson Wentz\, taken with the first selection in the 2016 draft. Last year\, he helped put the Eagles into a contending position before being injured late in the season\, and then watched as his team claimed the championship a few weeks later. \nThe Dallas Cowboys are the first NFL team to host a draft from a stadium. \nArlington is making the event a “team sport\,” as residents\, police\, utilities and the fire department have been planning for more than a year to make the draft a seamless success. Off-duty Arlington police officers will work the event. The department will work with city and Arlington Police engineers to come up with traffic plans to handle the demand on infrastructure\, as well as use social media and other communication methods with the road navigation application Waze and event coordinators to communicate to attendees where to go.
