O.K. Carter up next at Arlington on Tap with Great Women of Arlington.
Author, historian and raconteur O.K. Carter will provide February’s Arlington on Tap attendees a humorous preview of a new chapter to the third edition of his award-winning city history – Caddos, Cotton and Cowboys: Essays on Arlington.
The topic and the new chapter: Great Women of Arlington.
The time and place: 6 p.m. Feb. 13, Gilligan’s Bar and Grill (the saloon), 400 E. Abram St.
“Think of it as a sort of warmup for Valentine’s Day, since Tap will be Feb. 13,” Carter said.
Though the first two editions of Carter’s book were in the conventional print and paper mode, the third edition will be an Amazon e-book – and also considerably less costly. It will be available later this year.
“Though I’m personally a fan of traditional page-turner book formats, it’s a digital world,” Carter said. “This third edition also provides an opportunity to update quite a few chapters of the book, there being a number of pivotal changes in city politics, economics, culture and population trends. I’ve also never bought into the “it’s a man’s world” mindset and this chapter on some of the remarkable women so critical to Arlington’s evolution is a reflection on that reality and should have been included in the original version.”
