Arlington Joins City of Kindness, Lionsgate and Participant Media as a #ChooseKind City

Today, the City of Arlington announced its participation in the #ChooseKind City initiative—a campaign in partnership with City of Kindness, Lionsgate and Participant Media that invited people in cities across the country to participate in kind acts leading up to World Kindness Day on Monday, November 13.
As part of the initiative, the City of Arlington will hold a series of events over the next week aimed at promoting kindness.
Based on The New York Times best-seller, Wonder tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August “Auggie” Pullman—a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time. The film stars Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as the parents of a young boy, portrayed by Jacob Tremblay. Wonder is set for release November 17 from Lionsgate, in association with Participant Media and Walden Media.
Arlington is joining City of Kindness, Lionsgate and Participant Media, in addition to the other U.S. cities, to deliver Auggie’s message of kindness to local community members.
“I’ve always known that the people of Arlington are among the kindest in this country, so deciding to step up as a #ChooseKind city made sense,” Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams said. “We have been thrilled to see so many schools, businesses and community groups decide to participate this month by holding their own #ChooseKind events. What’s more exciting is to see residents of all ages find the smallest ways to lead kinder lives every day and make Arlington an even better place to live, learn, work and play.”
The City of Arlington, which launched a Kindness Initiative earlier this year, is participating in several #ChooseKind observances. This includes lighting up prominent Arlington markers with blue lights, organizing a community breakfast and providing support to schools and nonprofit organizations that work hard daily to make our community a better place to live, learn, work and play. Arlington also will encourage residents to wear blue November 13 to celebrate World Kindness Day.
As part of the Kindness Initiative, the City of Arlington is spotlighting acts of kindness happening throughout our community. Mayor Williams has challenged residents to report acts of kindness through the City’s free Ask Arlington mobile app, on the Acts of Kindness website, or by posting using #ArlingtonKindness and @CityofArlington over the next year.
Residents can also log their #ChooseKind acts of kindness in the official Kindness Counter at www.cityofkindness.org. Developed by City of Kindness, the online Kindness Counter aggregates kindness acts performed nationwide. Participating #ChooseKind cities were encouraged to log acts of kindness using the #ChooseKind hashtag.
