Ask Arlington: AISD Superintendent Updates Residents on the 2014 Bond Package

“Ask Arlington” is a show dedicated to answering the questions you have about what’s happening in our city.
Each week, on the City’s social media pages, we’ll let you know what the topic of the “Ask Arlington” episode will be. All you have to do is post your question and we’ll do our best to get it answered during our show.
This week’s show features Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos to answer your questions about the school district’s $663.1 million voter-approved bond package. The bond was approved in 2014 and all projects are scheduled to be complete by 2020.
According to AISD’s website, proceeds of the bond are being used to build new facilities, upgrade and renovate existing facilities, address safety and security district-wide, upgrade technology infrastructure and equipment, provide fine arts equipment and address transportation.
The bond package includes the Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center, a state-of-the-art facility offering programs in animation, architecture, automotive, biomedical science, broadcasting, cosmetology, construction, culinary/hospitality, engineering, entrepreneurship, Fire Academy, graphic design, health sciences, horticulture, information technology, law enforcement, photography, precision manufacturing and welding.
AISD will also build a new fine arts center and a district-wide athletics complex on property near Division and Collins, placing both facilities in the Arlington Entertainment District.
The fine arts center will include a 2,500-seat performance hall, a 400-seat theater, classroom space, art and dance studios, an instrument repair center, and gallery space. It will serve the entire district, grades pre-K through 12.
