As the entity that markets and sells Arlington to the world, we are happy that our city has only two slower visitor months each year—January and February.
These months offer opportunities, though, for residents to book affordable staycations at Arlington hotels, check out Texas Live!, visit Six Flags Over Texas, or enjoy the outstanding Disney exhibits at the Arlington Museum of Art.
The Goodyear Cotton Bowl kicks off at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 10, at AT&T Stadium. This year’s game is a College Football Playoff semifinal matchup with the winner advancing to the championship game in Atlanta.
AT&T Stadium is also the new site for the 100th playing of the East-West Shrine Bowl, 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30. This game features top college football players showcasing their talents to scouts from all 32 NFL teams, along with a national audience on the NFL Network. Tickets are available.
If you are more interested in arts and culture, you have to check out the Arlington Museum of Art’s two Disney exhibits—Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume; and All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney archives. These exhibits will be on display through March 23. In early 2024, the Arlington Museum of Art moved into the building that also houses Esports Stadium Arlington at 1200 Ballpark Way.
Also, a free exhibit opens on January 17 at the Arlington Museum of Art. It features a collection of costumes from the movie Wicked, which opened recently in theaters.
The Arlington Museum of Art is approximately ¼ mile from the National Medal of Honor Museum, which will open March 25, 2025. This museum honors recipients of the Medal of Honor, which is our nation’s highest recognition of valor in combat. We anticipate this museum attracting 600,000 visitors annually.
Six Flags Over Texas will be open on weekends in January, while the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame is open Tuesdays through Saturdays in the Entertainment District.
Texas Live! features 200,000 square feet of bars, restaurants and venues. There is always a game to watch there and great food and beverages await.
The Entertainment District features other outstanding restaurants, as well, including Hearsay Restaurant, El Tiempo Cantina, Soy Cowboy, Cut & Bourbon and Farena.
While there won’t be many games in Arlington’s Entertainment District this January, there is so much to do.
