On Tuesday, May 27, the Town of Pantego held a groundbreaking ceremony for the town’s new groundwater well, pump station, and a second elevated storage tank. The well, located at 2517 Miller Lane in Pantego, is a significant achievement in enhancing the town’s water quality. New reverse osmosis (RO) systems will provide better-tasting and smelling water for the town’s businesses and more than 2600 residents.
After years of community input and surveys, data confirmed the need for drinking water improvements. In 2022, Town Council members went door-to-door canvassing residents and businesses. By an 85% majority, the residents said that if the taste and composition of the town’s water could be improved, they would prefer to stay on the system that has been reliable for the past 70 years. After considering buying water from the neighboring City of Arlington, residents voted to maintain Pantego’s independent water system. With such an overwhelming majority, the Mayor, Councilmembers, and Pantego Staff began the long process of procuring property, working with Kimley Horn, the town’s engineering partner, Tarrant County, North Texas Ground Water Conservation, TCEQ, Collyer, and NextGen to begin the process of figuring out how to make this decision a reality.
Following numerous meetings, the plans for drilling a new well to accompany numerous existing wells, along with a new pump station and elevated storage tower, were begun. For overall improvement of water taste and composition, three reverse osmosis systems were planned. The new reverse osmosis systems are at the 303 and Lane well sites. The newly dedicated well site was established near the Larry W. Smith Law Enforcement Center, featuring a groundwater well, a second elevated storage tank, and a third RO system. Once operational, these RO systems will integrate seamlessly into the existing water treatment infrastructure. Water will continue to be sourced and treated as usual, but with the added purification step of reverse osmosis before distribution to homes and businesses.
These efforts reflect the Town of Pantego’s commitment to ensuring the health and satisfaction of its residents by delivering the highest quality water to all its residents and businesses. With the growth of the DFW area, water scarcity could become a significant challenge in this area. These costly but necessary improvements through expansion are expected to maintain Pantego’s water quality and availability.
