When he was a college athlete, playing baseball at the University of Florida, Shane Seroyer aimed to maximize performance.
That included practice, studying opposing pitchers, knowing the rules – everything that could make him the most prepared ballplayer he could be. It also meant having his body in the best shape possible.
Today, those lessons pay off for him as assistant team physician for the Texas Rangers, sports medicine doctor, and joint replacement surgeon who owns and operates Serotonin Anti-Aging Centers. The first Texas location opened in June at 971 Matlock Road in Mansfield.
“Dr. Seroyer” is a better way to be known than “designated hitter Seroyer.”
“Let’s just say I was much more successful on the surgical side of things,” he said with a laugh at the grand opening of the latest center. However, his athletic background continues to provide valuable insight in his healthcare career and as an advocate for physical longevity.
“Athletics taught me so much. How to compete and how to prepare, how to study,” he said. “For me, it’s always about health, the body, healing – it all fits together.”
The longevity clinic offers a suite of services that help customers understand where they can make the most improvement to their physical well-being. Services offered include programs targeting muscle development, bioidentical hormone balancing and medically directed weight loss. A range of authentic, medical-grade supplements specifically prepared for Serotonin is also available, which serve as “the foundation for the health and lifestyle transformation that Serotonin offers,” Dr. Seroyer said.
Further, a 72-point blood test is performed, which provides a map to a wellness plan for clients, Dr. Seroyer said.
“We have all the options for you,” he said. “The first thing we do is we listen. We want to know what the client is feeling, what’s bothering them, what are their concerns, either physically, mentally or emotionally. Where would they like to see themselves in six months, and how would that look? We educate them regarding the options to solve their concerns. The client guides the pathway we take. We’re a sounding board, and we’re here to guide you.”
There’s no doubt Dr. Seroyer is the right guide for Arlington and Mansfield residents. He is currently the Chief of Orthopedics at Mansfield Methodist Medical Center.
And of course, he certainly knows his way around North Texas. He got here as fast as he could.
After earning his MD at Florida and completing his internship and residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, he joined his mentor and former team surgeon on the UF baseball squad, Dr. Keith Meister, with the Major League Baseball team in Arlington in 2009.
“It was right during one of the glory runs for the Rangers,” he said. “I was working at Medical Center of Arlington – I was actually the Chief of Surgery and the Chief of Orthopedics there. I put my professional roots down, I got comfortable in the Arlington-Mansfield area. I loved it. And now I’ve got two generations of patients from the Arlington-Mansfield area.”
Dr. Seroyer has a growing family here, too. His wife is a TCU alum, and they have three young children.
With the growth of the Serotonin Anti-Aging Centers, life is busier and the responsibilities are greater than ever.
Yet for the Jacksonville, FL native, the personal and career satisfaction levels are also higher than ever.
“I knew from the day I first volunteered in my team surgeon’s office in Gainesville, Florida, that that’s what I wanted to do,” Dr. Seroyer said. “Since 2009, I’ve been helping on the surgical side of wellness. Now, with this, I get to delve into the longevity side of it with the metabolic and nutritional aspects of it.
“I love it. It’s definitely a very rewarding place to be.”
As Dr. Seroyer can tell you from his days as a Gator, it’s all about maximizing performance, health and longevity – in sports and in life.
