The Unite Arlington community service weekend was organized by Engage Arlington, a collaboration of churches seeking to create a community-wide movement of working together for the betterment of Arlington. During Unite Arlington, volunteers participated in efforts such as much-needed home repairs and yard maintenance for seniors and widows, school beautification projects and public park clean ups. More than 100 projects in total were completed.

For one project, volunteers helped sow wildflower seeds on Saturday to create a pollinator garden at O.S. Gray Natural Area on Abram Street.

“It’s awesome that people want to come out and be part of something in their community. We’re not just sowing seed. What we are doing is making a positive contribution to the quality of life here in Arlington,” said Kevin Donovan, a volunteer with Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area. This effort just typifies the can-do spirit of Arlington. People come out to help their neighbors because in a sense, we are all neighbors.”

Engage Arlington is planning to hold another weekend event in the spring. For more about the Unite Arlington initiative: unitearlingtontx.org.
